COMFORTERS RESPOND TO LOCAL NEEDS

Three requests for quilts have been received by the Comforters in recent months.

We heard of an organization called Quilts of Valor. They provide quilts to wounded servicemen in hospitals. We were asked to send quilts to Marines at Camp Pendleton. Dolores and Vernon H. made two trips and delivered 50 quilts to the hospital there.

We also heard of an organization called Project Hollywood Cares. They send Care Packages to our troops overseas. In December, 2007 they expanded their outreach to include three Families who had lost loved ones. Nine Children lost either their Father or Mother. Twelve Trinity Lutheran Comforters’ quilts were included in the extensive care packages sent to the three families.

Lastly, we were made aware of an organization in San Pedro called Rainbow Services. Their mission is to end the cycle of family violence. Women and Children can be housed at Rainbow House Emergency Center. A representative of the organization gave a presentation to our group when she came to pick up the 25 quilts we were providing.

The Comforters are blessed by these opportunities. We continue to meet every Monday and will have quilts ready in October for Lutheran World Relief.
