Our Easter Journey - There's More

Our Travels through the "Valleys of Lent" is nearly over, and we have learned much about the power of the dark and damaged places that we can so easily find ourselves in. You'd think that would be enough, but you'd be wrong! There's more!

We still have a few "valleys" yet to traverse. Among them is the "The Valley of the Shadow of Death" on Good Friday, a valley in which we confront the way death touches and taints so much of our lives. The service on that night will be abbreviated because we will also have a special, interactive experience called "Jesus' Passion Creative Prayer Stations," which will help you personally take part in the events that we remember on Good Friday. This is to be experienced in silence, and is probably more appropriate for adults and children 6th grade and above (child care will be provided for younger children for this part of the service). You'd think that would be enough, but you'd be wrong! There's more!

We are again offering First Communion instruction for children in 5th grade and above who have not yet taken part in the sacrament. It is also open for children slightly younger at the parent's discretion with consultation with the pastor. Here children, along with their parents who also must attend the class, learn about the meaning and significance of Holy Communion. It's taught by Pastor Becker at 9:30 am at the back of the Sanctuary on the two Sundays before Easter: March 13th and March 20th. This is open to church, school, preschool and community families, and there is no charge. The children then celebrate their First Communion at the 7 pm Maundy Thursday service on March 24th. You'd think that would be enough, but you'd be wrong! There's more!

On Palm Sunday we have a special "Palm Sunday Brunch Theater," presented at 11:30 in the AMC (cost and other details in the announcement in the Caller)., You'd think that would be enough, but you'd be wrong! There's more!

Finally, we reach our destination: Easter Sunday, the celebration of light coming into our dark and damaged world through Jesus' resurrection from the dead. We begin at 6 am with a sunrise service, followed by light refreshments and then our 8 and 10:30 am Easter Celebration Communion Services. Through music and worship we respond to the Good News of God's love in Christ, a victory over all of those valleys of Lent, over the power of darkness, and an entry into light, life and joy.

You'd think that would be enough, but... no, wait, that's about it. We hope that you will join us in this final part of our Lenten Journey, a journey ultimately that leads to Jesus!

In Christ's Love and Service,

Pastor Larry
