Dreaming of Guyana

From Guyana.org: "At the point where the Caribbean meets South America on its North Atlantic seaboard lies an almost unknown, but incredibly wonderful land of unspoilt beauty, where the virgin rainforest leads to the Amazon Basin. Where the jungle is still unexplored, rivers uncharted and mountains yet to be climbed."

Of course, this enticing and poetic description is the Chamber of Commerce view of Guyana, and while it's correct and true, this is not why we're thinking about Guyana in July at Trinity Lutheran. Our Missionary, Dr. Richard Young, is coming to visit us on Sunday, July 10th, to share with us the story of his work there in Guyana, and tell us of the land, the people, and the work of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in his church there.

Dr. Young, in addition to being a pastor, is also a medical doctor and his work there is not just in the church but also in the community to help with some of the health issues in this "unspoilt" but underdeveloped country. The work of the church, as it brings the good news of Jesus Christ to a lost and damaged world, always brings healing to those who hear it.

Dr. Young will be preaching on Sunday the 10th at the 9 am service. After the service we will have an adult forum in which he wilt share about his work. It will be a time for learning about the work of the Spirit across the world, and about how we can be a part of what God is doing in the lives of his people so far away.

And of course, because we're Lutheran we have to eat. We will share a potluck meal with Dr. Young and our Trinity family following the forum. Instructions for what to bring are located elsewhere in this Caller. It will be a full morning, but it will bring insight and inspiration to us as we continue in our journey of faith together.

Late Breaking News!
This just handed to me (I always wanted to say that!), we can announce that we have just hired a new principal for our Day School! Mr. Alex Cardenas, who comes to us with over 20 years of experience as a teacher, school administrator and principal, will begin his work with us on Monday, July 11th. Please pray for Alex and offer him your support.

We thank Bob Federwitz for helping us through this past year as our Interim Principal, and wish him well as he discovers new challenges and joys in his re-semi-retirement (and no, I can't really explain what that means...)

God's blessings and peace,

Pastor Larry
